The Faithful and Inerrant Word of God: Trusting God’s Revelation in the King James Bible
The Authorized King James Bible represents a profound divine gift to humanity: the inerrant, preserved Word of God. When one reads from its pages, there arises a confident assurance that every word is true and faithful, for it proceeds directly from the unchanging God who cannot lie.
Scripture affirms that God’s Word is characterized by absolute truthfulness and reliability. As declared in Psalm 33:4, “For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.” This establishes the foundational integrity of Scripture, aligning perfectly with the character of God Himself. Furthermore, Numbers 23:19 states, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” Similarly, Titus 1:2 refers to “eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began,” and Hebrews 6:18 emphasizes “it was impossible for God to lie.” These passages confirm that God’s promises, including those concerning His Word, are immutable and trustworthy.
A central premise is that believers possess the whole Word of God, not merely fragments or approximations. The Lord actively preserves His revelation intact across generations. Psalm 12:6-7 declares, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” This promise underscores divine guardianship over every word, ensuring purity and permanence.
The eternal nature of Scripture is reiterated throughout the Bible. Psalm 119:89 affirms, “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” Isaiah 40:8 states, “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself reinforced this truth in Matthew 24:35: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” He further emphasized in Matthew 5:18, “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” These declarations affirm that not even the smallest element of God’s Word will be lost or altered.
In contrast to modern translations that often rely on ancient fragments and textual criticism to reconstruct the text—potentially introducing uncertainty or dilution—the Authorized King James Bible stands as a faithful representation of what God has preserved. 1 Peter 1:25 echoes, “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever,” linking this enduring Word to the gospel preached to believers.
In conclusion, the Authorized King James Bible stands as the preserved, inerrant Word of God, offering believers the complete and faithful revelation promised throughout Scripture. Passages such as Psalm 12:6–7, Psalm 119:89, Isaiah 40:8, and Matthew 24:35 declare that God, who cannot lie, has eternally secured His words—pure, settled in heaven, and enduring forever—against corruption or loss. In contrast to modern translations that depend upon fragmentary manuscripts and scholarly reconstruction, the King James Bible reflects the divine commitment to preservation, providing the full counsel of God for faith and practice. Appropriately, Proverbs 25:2 states, “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” Thus, while God in His sovereignty has concealed certain mysteries within His eternal counsel, it is the privilege and responsibility of His people—honoured as kings and priests in Christ—to diligently search out and treasure the Word He has graciously preserved and made accessible in the Authorized Version. This diligent searching yields unwavering confidence in its truth and fidelity, affirming the profound gift of God’s unchanging revelation to His church.
