Encouragement

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
To be weary means to feel depleted, either in body, emotions, or both. Labor, distress, or life’s burdens leave us feeling worn out, and without the strength or will to persevere.
Does this seem familiar?
How can we not grow weary of doing good in our present society? The Bible offers the remedy through the life of David.
David, a mighty man of valor, slew Goliath with a single swift stone. What a victory that was! However, life’s circumstances do not always yield such profound outcomes.
Even as our energy diminishes and exhaustion takes hold, we are not to give up. In these turbulent times, we are to trust God to sustain us. Hope is what we cling to.
I have a question for you. Was David always strong and victorious?
In 2 Samuel 21:15 we read, “There was a war again between the Philistines and Israel, and David went down together with his servants, and they fought against the Philistines. And David grew weary.”
Yes, David, the mighty man of valor, also grew weary.
There was a war again. The battles kept coming. Where was the victory? It didn’t come as swiftly as when David slew Goliath. Even in his weariness, David learned how to sustain the fight.
2 Samuel 16:14 tells us how David endured weariness, “And the king and all the people who were with him arrived weary at the Jordan. And there he refreshed himself.”
Refreshment is a necessary remedy. Today we do not have the river Jordan; we have the Word of God. I invite you to become refreshed as you read the following scriptures and enjoy the washing away of weariness.
“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” 2 Chronicles 15:7
“For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.” Jeremiah 31:25
‘‘but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31(b)
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phillipians 4:13
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Praising God offers another way to be refreshed. Vibrant worship overcomes weariness and brings the joy of the Lord back into our lives.
This truth was known by David, the mighty man of valor.
Inspired by David’s enthusiastic praises to God, many psalms exist that we can turn to when we are weary. David clearly understood the experience of being in God’s presence.
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11
“And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10(b)
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.” Ephesians 6:10
