“No Longer Slaves To Sin But Slaves To Righteousness

Romans 6:9-13 says knowing that Christ having been raised from the dead dies no more death hath no longer has dominion over him for the death that he died, he died to sin once and for all but the life that he lives he lives to God. Likewise you also reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. There do not let sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

Brothers and sisters we are no longer slaves to sin but slaves to righteousness. When we were of the world we obeyed sin to the fullest. Sin was our master and it had total dominion over us. We were lovers of pleasures instead of lovers of God. Some of us were drug addicts, alcoholics, perversion addicts etc. In addition, some of us could not begin our day without engaging in some sort of sin. In fact, we ate, drank and slept sin. We were used by the devil and did not even know it. We were children of darkness and not of light. We loved our sin therefore were servants of it. Defiled from the inside out and filthy as rags.

Now through the blood of Jesus we are children of light. Once blind but now we see. For Jesus Christ who knew no sin became sin that we would be made the righteousness of God. Romans 8:18 mentions: Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness (v. 20). So no longer are we to yield ourselves to sin and unrighteousness but to the word of God through Christ Jesus who is our righteousness. Romans 8:1 says: There is therefore now no condemnation to them, which are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit. We are to walk in the spirit of the new man, not the flesh of the old man. First John 3:9 says: Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

We were bought with a price and the price has been paid in full. We are no longer victims but victorious. Galatians 6:8 says for he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the spirit will of the spirit reap everlasting life. Since we are the righteousness of God why should we serve sin over righteousness? We have been made free by the blood of the lamb; truly the blood was not in vain. As slaves to righteousness we are heirs of the promise. In times past we were guilty because of a sinner nature; but now we are innocent through a righteousness nature. By the grace of God, we are no longer slaves to sin but slaves to righteousness. Amen.
