The next day at school, Dina and Annie were playing tetherball during recess time. Annie noticed that something was going on with Dina. "Dina, you're the tetherball champion of the sixth grade, and I've already beaten you three times. What's going on?"

Dina sighed. "I'm sorry, Annie. I just can't believe what my brother did last night, that's all."

"What did Paul do?" Annie asked.

"He gave me all of his favorite music cassettes and baseball cards," Dina answered. "It was totally weird."

Annie scoffed. "Dina, I've known you and your family for years. Paul has always doted on you. He's always spoiled you," she said. "If he wasn't giving you his stuff, then I'd be worried. He's always showered you with so much brotherly love and attention that I always knew the day would come when he started giving you his stuff."

"It's not just that, Annie," Dina said. "He told me that he's not going to Princeton now. Going to Princeton and becoming a lawyer like our dad meant the world to him. He's not studying. He's not doing well on the track team. Last night he insisted that I promise that I'll always remember that he will always love me and that I will always love him. I don't know why he would make me promise that. I know he'll always love me, and I was sure he knew that I'll always love him."

Annie put her hand on her friend's shoulder. "He's probably being unusually emotional, because he's still dealing with his break-up with Bridget. Whenever you're grieving a death or grieving the end of a relationship, it's hard. I remember last year when my grandma died. My dad has to cook all our meals and take me to school, because my mom was always too sad to get out of bed. After a while, she was okay. I know Paul will be okay, too. He just needs time. The best thing you can do is pray for him and show him you love him. Do something to make him feel better."

"Thanks, Annie." Dina gave her friend a hug. The two girls played a new game of tetherball. This time Dina won.

For the rest of the day, Dina thought about something nice that she could do for Paul to make him smile. She decided that she would bake oatmeal cookies for him after school. Oatmeal cookies were his favorite cookies. He will be smiling again in no time, she thought to herself.
