The Parable of the Rhyming Fishermen

Welcome to our story set not a thousand miles away
In a place not too dissimilar to where we are today
I met three rhyming fishermen
Who throughout the course of time
Had developed an ability
To communicate through rhyme

Like all fishermen of course discourse would often focus
On seafood in its living form and whereabouts the boat was
Their confabs piscatorial
Would mention line and hook and rig
And every anglers favourite
“It must have been at least this big”

Our fishing friends took pleasure in their rhyming recreation
Their ability to harmonize was cause for celebration
While amazing all with witty chat
It really should be noted
Like any feast there comes a time
When those who eat are bloated

Their engagements though exciting had become a tad exclusive
And the mood towards our fishermen was leaning to abusive
Seafood was a dirty word
Things marine would irritate
Sending our three fishy friends
Into poetical debate

“Somehow, inadvertently it seems we’ve alienated
Most of our community when we’ve communicated
Though fishing is a noble art
If we’re not to lose our salt
This rhyming though inventive
Will really have to halt”

Our fishing trio still enjoy both fish and using rhyme
But their lesson they have learnt and they have learnt in time
They aim now always to include
And share their love of fish
Then when they get to heaven
They can rhyme just as they…well as much as they want to really!

"Somehow, inadvertently it seems we’ve alienated
Most of our community when we’ve communicated" - doesn't that just apply to the church witnessing about Jesus? I thought your poem was great and the rhymes at times were really inventive and funny.
