The Library of Divine Revelation:
BIBLICAL AUTHORITY, Part Two -- the Assault

The purpose of this short paper is to demonstrate who has perpetuated the assault on biblical authority and give several examples.

As established in the preceding essay, (see The Library of Divine Revelation: Biblical Authority, An Introduction) the Doctrine of Origins is foundational to the first eleven chapters of Genesis which are foundational to the book of Genesis. In turn the Book of Genesis is foundational to all of scripture. Destroy the Doctrine of Origins in the minds of believers and scoffers alike and the rest of the Bible's doctrines collapse. The assailants have understood this for a long time:

It becomes clear now that the whole justification of Jesus' life and death is predicated on the existence of Adam and the forbidden fruit he and Eve ate. Without the original sin, who needs to be redeemed?

Without Adam's fall into a life of constant sin terminated by death, what purpose is there to Christianity? None.1

As Dr. Bozarth points out, if there were no Adam then Christ is not necessary. Restated: without origins (Creation, Adam and Eve, original sin) there is no reason for Jesus nor Christianity. Conclusion: if one attacks and disproves origins then Christianity is effectively destroyed in the minds of any who would carelessly examine it or blindly accept what is presented from the pulpit, particularly today's American pulpit, by listening to the big three television networks or attending public schools. The attacker? For the past two centuries it has been the modern arguments of evolution as put forward by Charles Darwin. Evolution has been put forward as the scientific2 proof of the origin of all things. Essentially evolution is derived from the philosophical school of Naturalism.

It is a fallacy to believe that facts speak for themselves they are always interpreted according to a framework. The framework behind the evolutionists' interpretation is naturalism it is assumed that things made themselves, that no divine intervention has happened, and that God has not revealed to us knowledge about the past.3

The attack has been and continues to be upon the Biblical doctrine of origins. For example:
Evolutionist (E) earth was formed by the big bang;
Creationist (C) - earth was made by God.

E - life just spontaneously occurred (doctrine of spontaneous generation);
C - everything made was made by God.

E - mankind evolved from single celled creatures over millions of years;
C - mankind was created by God less than 10,000 years ago.

E - different types of humans developed at different times and thus some are more advanced than others [long-standing argument for racism -gwe];
C - all humans are direct descendants of the first humans, Adam and Eve.

E - humans are descendants of apes;
C - humans are created in the image of God.

This paper has identified the attack on Christianity the destruction of the Doctrine of Origins. It also has identified in general terms the perpetrators as well as several examples.
