People have lived in this world and they left their marks in different forms. There are lessons to learn from the stories of past people. Meaning that there are lessons for those who are willing to learn from history.

To God be the glory who has given us the Holy Bible as a compass with which humanity can navigate the seas of life successfully.

The Scriptures have solutions to human challenges. This is so because it contains very important instructions. Not only that, it contains the stories of righteous people to follow and those who are not righteous to avoid.

In today's modern world, the rate of divorce is becoming increasingly alarming. A careful observation of the causes of this will reveal that selfishness takes a prominent place.

How?

This is because people want what they want as soon as they want it, without any consideration of the state of the other person(s).

This is not good enough. In relationships, there is a need to consider others' affairs and welfare. It is not normal to impose your request on other people, You want a smooth and lasting relationship to exist. You should even be ready to pay necessary and reasonable prices.

There is a great lesson to learn from the way Queen Esther administered her relationship with her husband King Ahazuerus, the world's power of his time.

There was an urgent need to save the lives of her race, the Jews but she did not allow this to take over the control of her emotions. She was considerate in her requests. She eschews selfishness in all ramifications. She allowed her man a free hand to make the right decisions. No imposition or force employed.

She said, "If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king's provinces:” Esther 8:5

She submitted her request to the "pleasing" of the King. As important and pressing the request was, she wanted her man to grant it if he was pleased. Can you see wisdom in this?

She sought his favor also. She wanted her request to be met as a result of a favor granted. She did not claim it as a right. She had no domineering attitude. She wanted to get her request as a form from her husband.

Not only that, she always wants her husband to do the right thing. She allowed him to consider whether or not her matter is the right one. Note that saving lives is involved, isn't it right? Yet, allowed him to decide it.

To crown it all, she brought romance into her request. She wanted to know if the King still appreciated her beauty. That is, if she still looks good and pleasing to him.

All these yielded the desired result because her request was granted.

Beloved, do you employ the same approach in your requests to those you need from them? Be considerate when making a request. Do not be a dictator give him a free hand to decide what to do. May the Lord grant you the wisdom to do things that will make your relationship flourish in Jesus' name. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
