"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).

I empathise with the one who was raped. There's a need for comfort, the body has been violated. There's a need for healing, the mind is under attack, enduring emotional pain from being physically and sexually abused.

If you are that person you'll come to a point in your life where you are told to 'Forgive!' to 'Let it go!' and 'Move on with your life!' If you have not yet reached a place of releasing the perpetrator from your heart, those are words that can re-open those unhealed wounds.

Unfortunately, the natural process of reaching a place of forgiveness cannot take place for the vast majority of rape victims. I say the 'vast majority' as there are cases where the rapist is known to the victim and there are reported cases where the process of repentance and forgiveness has taken place. However, I am yet to hear of one of those cases where restoration of a loving, caring and healthy relationship has taken place. It stands to reason that, there are some cases where restoration will not progress from forgiveness.

Nevertheless, you do need to move forward with your life and not allow the rapist to control the rest of your life. If you do not get to a place where you can release the perpetrator from your heart, it will bring to ruin your other relationships.

If you are one such individual, you will need as much support as you can get to overcome such traumatic ordeal. Rape victims have, in the past, been made to feel like they are not actually victims. So, it is natural to crawl into a shell and try to deal with those emotions alone, never confiding in anyone or reporting the crime to the police. I cannot imagine how difficult that might be but I do know that it eats away at you, affecting your health and the relationships you are connected to. Please stop trying to deal with it on your own you need help to overcome.

You can look to the cross for guidance. Here's what Jesus did: while his accusers mocked Him as He hung from the cross, He turned towards heaven and made a request. He said, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. So, although you may not get to experience the repentance of the one who violated your body, you can ask God to forgive them. He will help you to release [through the process of forgiveness] the hurt and begin the healing process.

There is life after rape. You will need support to work through the emotions and get your life back on track. Your life does not need to be ruled by the thoughts and emotions derived from the trauma. You have the opportunity to seek help, move forward and begin to live again.
