"Bad company corrupts good character." - 1 Corinthians 15:33

As Christians, we are called to surround ourselves with people who will encourage, support, and uplift us in our walk with God. However, there are times when we may find ourselves in relationships with people who are toxic, abusive, or detrimental to our well-being.

In this sermon, we will explore some signs that a person is not supposed to be in your life, and what the Bible has to say about toxic relationships.

Signs That a Person is Not Supposed to be in Your Life

They Drain Your Energy: Toxic people can leave you feeling drained, exhausted, and depleted of energy. If being around someone makes you feel like you're walking on eggshells or constantly trying to please them, it may be time to reevaluate the relationship.

"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." - Galatians 6:2

They Are Emotionally or Physically Abusive: If someone is consistently abusive, dismissive, or hurtful, it's time to seek help and distance yourself from the relationship.

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her." - Ephesians 5:25

They Are Manipulative or Controlling: Toxic people often use guilt, anger, or self-pity to manipulate and control others. If you feel like you're being held hostage or forced to do something against your will, it's time to break free.

"For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." - Galatians 5:13

They Do Not Respect Boundaries: Healthy relationships are built on mutual respect and trust. If someone consistently disregards your boundaries or disrespects your needs, it may be time to reevaluate the relationship.

"Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to edify him." - Romans 15:2

They Are Not Supportive or Encouraging: Toxic people often focus on their own needs and desires, without regard for others. If someone is consistently unsupportive or discouraging, it may be time to seek out more positive and uplifting relationships.

"Encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing." - 1 Thessalonians 5:11

What to Do When You Realize a Person is Not Supposed to be in Your Life

Seek God's Guidance: Pray and seek God's guidance on how to navigate the situation.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6

Set Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries to protect yourself from further harm or abuse.

"The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands." - Proverbs 14:1

Seek Support: Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who will encourage and uplift you.

"Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their toil." - Ecclesiastes 4:9

Practice Self-Care: Take care of your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

"The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ." - 1 Corinthians 12:12

Toxic relationships can be draining, abusive, and detrimental to our well-being. As Christians, we are called to surround ourselves with people who will encourage, support, and uplift us in our walk with God.

If you find yourself in a toxic relationship, remember that you are not alone. Seek God's guidance, set boundaries, seek support, and practice self-care. Remember that you deserve to be treated with love, respect, and kindness.
