As Christians, we are called to live according to God's Word, but it's easy to fall into the trap of cherry-picking scripture to justify our own desires and sins. This approach to biblical interpretation is not only misleading but also dishonouring to God. In this sermon, we'll explore few examples of how cherry-picking scripture can lead us astray.

1: Justifying Divorce

Some people might quote Matthew 19:8, where Jesus says, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning." However, they might ignore the preceding verse, Matthew 19:7, where Jesus emphasizes the importance of marriage, saying, "Haven't you read...that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'?"

Cherry-picking scripture can lead to justifying divorce, rather than working towards reconciliation and forgiveness.
