                      What Am I Waiting For?

By Robert Schaetzle

My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. Psalm 130:6 ESV

Throughout our seasons of living, circumstances come before us when we’ll ask: “What am I waiting for, what am I doing this for?” Resulting with anxiousness because of fatigue, or concerns about possible actions done hastily only to have later regrets. None of us are exempt from those darts of temptation thrown at us by the prince of darkness. The power of evil is always purposing to cause us to stumble with fear or regret.

To assist and help us to be extra patient about our decisions, I recognized long ago, the value of Proverbs 16:3.Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. This has given me a better understanding that (1), I want what I do, to be for the Lord’s honor, more than my satisfaction or determination. And (2), this has taught me to be a better listener to the Voice of God’s Spirit to lead.  Be slow to act means taking enough time to ask … “Lord is this what I hear you telling me?”

Learning to be slow to speak, quick to hear, as James encourages us, will result in less anger and disappointment. (James1:19)  More and more, throughout my quiet moments with our Lord, my soul is busy waiting with a determined hope that goes beyond my circumstance. What each one of our lord’s saints receives from His Spirits prompting will not results in regret. We know God don’t make mistakes! The conclusion to these thoughts are,  I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope. Psalm 103:5

Father, what I am waiting for truly is far greater…  than watchmen in the morning. Waiting upon Jesus is far better than all I do or want. Help me to hear the voice of Your Spirit. amen
