Agreeing With God

Confession IS good for the soul; essential in repentance and restoration. Confession is good for my family, church and a wayward nation. I’m quick to admit that confession is good for me. Why is it so hard for us to say we’ve been wrong?

Daniel was not too proud.

“So I turned my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and petitions, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.

I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:

Ah, Lord—the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps His gracious covenant with those who love Him and keep His commands—  we have sinned, done wrong, acted wickedly, rebelled, and turned away from Your commands and ordinances. We have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, fathers, and all the people of the land (Daniel 9:3-6 HCSB).”

Yes, we have sinned.

Daniel didn’t evade the problem; he faced it. I’ve heard that confession is agreeing with God about our sins. He hates it and so must I.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 HCSB).”
