The family operated savings and loan in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ had an unexpected visitor. The bank examiner asked to see the books. A good auditor uncovers even small errors entered unintentionally or in carelessness. Every penny needed to be accounted for and the audit would reveal a shortage of thousands in deposits.
What if we needed to give an account of our lives? We will; God holds each of us accountable. He will open the books. Is love and forgiveness in our plus column? It can be unsettling to imagine our books opened for inspection.
The LORD is looking for love. Will he find a shortage?
“Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NASB).”
True love does not take into account the errors of others against us.
“Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8 NASB).
Love covers all shortages…
