It was thread bare; yet, served me well. I hated to part with my turquoise robe. Though lifeless, it brought me comfort. Maybe you have a favorite robe, sweater or shirt and understand. Most of us have at least one item we wear repeatedly. People have closets full of clothes but usually wear favorites over and over.

I remember an old Father Knows Best episode; Margaret Anderson discarded Jim’s favorite flannel shirt. He sulked like a little boy that lost his puppy. His wife was embarrassed to see him in such disgusting attire. On the other hand; he felt comfortable and relaxed each time he put it on.

I bought my old turquoise robe at a thrift store; in good condition, it was a bargain. Warm, it kept me ‘comfy’ in cold winter months or if I suffered with a common cold. I’d compare it to curling up under a comforter or quilt with a cup of hot tea within reach. Ahhh…

I now have 2 winter robes; am pleased with both but have no strong emotional attachment.

I cling to Jesus’ gift of a robe of righteousness and find comfort in His word.
