“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills,   Amos 9:13  NIV

Of the many Messianic prophecies that point to changes in conditions within Israel that have to exist before the return of Christ, this is one of my favorites, having come to pass in my lifetime.

When one considers that ancient Israel only produced two major crops (wheat and barley) when Amos’s prophecy was made and how the Romans and the Turks almost depleted the land of forests, it is a real joy to see how the land has come back into amazing production by Israel’s advanced agricultural technologies and by their success in producing superior and varied grains, fruits and vegetables (such as splendid avocados the size of grapefruits).

It was the unfolding of hard work and irrigation that allowed this land to bloom again to fulfill the prophecy of Amos 9:13, and it is the continuous improvements of Israel’s irrigation technology and crop developments that sustain this wonderful transition.

For some time, it has been possible in Israel to have one crop being planted in a field alongside another field being harvested at the same time, because the climate, the great diversity of crops, continuous crop rotations and the rich ground of the drained wetlands make it possible.
