Why His Blood Had To Be Shed While On The Cross
Part Two
Human viewpoint and Hollywood tends to focus on the physical suffering and the physical death that the Lord Jesus Christ certainly suffered on the cross.
While such pain and suffering in our behalf is not to be overlooked or unappreciated, we must not fail to perceive the unseen spiritual activity that had taken place.
Like the unseen Eph. 4:30 sealing (baptism) and Titus 3: 5 regenerating Work of God the Holy Spirit, that takes place at the moment one is born again, the atoning Work of the Lord Jesus Christ was unseen.
What appeared to be His total defeat, was His greatest accomplishment in behalf of Fallen Man.
It was not until after His resurrection and His personal appearances that many of His followers came to understand what had taken place in the unseen spiritual realm while He was on the cross.
Jesus’ greatest pain, suffering, and yet achievement, was spiritual in nature, while being separated from God during His three hours of spiritual death, as the crushing weight of the world’s sin load was placed on His humanity, as He atoned for it with the shedding of His physical blood.
We will no longer think of our personal sins as relatively little ones when we acknowledge that they contributed to the total crushing weight that He had to bear while making atonement, and what it took for Him to atone for them.
The spiritual death (separation from God) that He suffered in our place will never be experienced by those who are born again.
It will be experienced by those who depart this world having rejected the unadulterated Gospel Message, finding themselves in the Torments of Hades, and later in the Lake of Fire where they will spend all of Eternity future.
Unlike His spiritual death, Jesus’ physical death was not for the purpose of removing the experience of physical death from the human environment.
With a few exceptions (e.g. 1Thess. 4: 17), physical death remains to be part of the plan that God has in mind for the members of the human race.
Scripture describes the moment of physical death of a born again believer as a precious event (1) in the eyes of God.
For unbelievers, it is the worst of all possible tragedies with irreversible consequences.
Just as He had told the man on the cross on the side of His own (2), they would be in the Paradise of Hades that same day. Meanwhile, after leaving His body behind, it was placed in the tomb, until His forthcoming resurrection took place three days later.
The Paradise of Hades was the destination of all the departed souls of believers until the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
There are no longer any souls in the Paradise of Hades, but the Torments section of Hades continues to be filled with the departed souls of unbelievers. There they will remain in agony until the Rev. 20: 13,15 event takes place, after which they will be tossed into what the Bible calls the Lake of Fire where they will spend all of Eternity future.
Advancing disciples will have a clear understanding of what was accomplished, and what the purpose was for both the spiritual and the physical deaths of the Lord Jesus Christ.
