‘WHERE is it?’

I’ve lost something again!

Things simply vanish. Well, it does seem that way. In most cases, I find them after I give up and stop looking. They weren’t lost; only misplaced and forgotten. In many instances, I haven’t realized how important an item was until I lost it. One day, I found one of Mom’s missing keepsakes.

After Dad’s retirement, my parents left behind brutal New York State winters and settled in South Texas. They rented a small stucco house for several years before needing to relocate into senior citizen housing. My grandmother’s cookbook was lost in that move. Mom would never use another family recipe from Grandma’s cook book.

WHERE was it?

I discovered her book in an outdoor storage building following the death of my mother. I passed it on to her sister, my Aunt Dorothy. She outlived Mom by many years. I wonder; had she given the old cookbook to one of her grandchildren?

Things do get lost but God knows exactly where they are. Luke Chapter 15 gives several examples of items lost and later found. Imagine losing your son. He had left home in rebellion. The story has a happy ending; he returned home in regret and repentance.

“And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate (Luke 15:23-24 ESV).”
