Music To My Ears

Boarding the plane, suddenly it became real. I’m on my way to connect with forty-three people I have never met to go on a two-week medical mission trip to Vietnam!

The first flight was smooth arriving in Chicago, my first connection of three. The airport was buzzing like a bee hive ready to swarm. A voice on the intercom had reported a thunderstorm with high winds coming which delayed all flights. The threat became a reality; a long layover ensued. Too much time to think doesn’t go well with my overactive imagination. Thinking I’d be halfway around the world from my family. I felt a knot forming in my stomach.

The “what-ifs” began.

What if there’s a crisis at home and I can’t get back?

What if I miss my connection in Los Angeles and the rest of the group?

What if I can’t get another flight to until the next day and get stranded?

Even with hundreds of people in the airport, I’ve never felt so alone. As I began praying to God for peace, I heard Christian music playing, not your typical airport music. Quickly opening my eyes, and looking around, I spotted a band playing nearby, later learning they were headed to an engagement and using the time for a rehearsal.

The music was an answer to my prayers. Listening reminded me of God’s faithfulness to be with me always, even in difficult times.

Whatever difficulty we may face, real or imagined. God is only a prayer away and wants to meet our needs. I did make it to Vietnam but that’s a story for another time.

Whatever God calls us to do, He will make a way.

Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard. your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
