Two People Owing

“Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said. Luke 7:41-43 NIV

Our lives are like the money owed. The wage of sin is death, and we are all sinners. God is the money lender. He is willing and does forgive our total debt, our sinful nature. He does this through the shedding of the innocent blood of His Son Jesus Christ. But we must acknowledge the debt we have been forgiven. We must accept and believe in Jesus Christ. If we do not accept the debt forgiven then we will face the wage of our sin, which is death, death to an eternity away from the presence of God. This lack of the presence of God results in eternal torment.
