Greatest and Least

“I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” Luke 7:28 NIV

What message is Jesus trying to convey here? It seems to fit well with an old maxim which states “the least of the greatest is greater than the greatest of the least.” John was the greatest of the prophets. Yet, the prophets foretold of the Messiah that was to come. John saw some of what the Lord did, yet he was not around for much of what Christ did. Believers of Christ are blessed with the knowledge of what Christ has done and receive the Holy Spirit from the Father through belief in the Son. We have all the blessings which come to those who believe in Christ. We who are the least are great in the kingdom.
