Mike enjoyed his job as a janitor at the small Christian high school and also liked being around the boys in the school’s champion ship basketball team.  

So one evening as the boys’ practice was almost ended and as Mike waited for them to leave he began to read his pocket Bible until they finished. But on his way out of the gym one boy asked him what he was reading.

"Book of Revelation – our Sunday school class is just starting to study it." Mike told him.

“Hey, how can you understand that? Even our Bible teacher says it’s weird.” The boy replied.

“Well, I’ll admit it can be confusing,” Mike replied, “But I know one thing - in the end the good guys win."

That saying is probably from old Western movies where the hero was “the good guy” and the villain the “bad guy.” And of course in the films the heroes were right and decent – and the villains were wrong and evil. It was a matter of black and white.

However, today when dealing with right and wrong it’s not always so clear. So instead of black and white, standards seem to be mostly gray. Sometimes we might even think that there’s no difference between wrong and right.  

But there is a difference - to God.

For in the light of eternity, God’s standards for us are solid – and will remain so. A fact that can provide a continuing sense of confidence to us as we serve him in a graying world until the end when our faithfulness will be evident. When, as Mike put it, “The good guys win.”
