Adventures In Paradise aired from 1959-1962 on ABC. The captain of a schooner sailed seas to Tahiti and I was a sofa stowaway. That’s the closest I’ve ever come to Tahiti; yet, it makes a nice addition to my bucket list.

Paradise was the theme. 

I was a teenager in the 1960’s. Hawaiian clothing, luau parties and the limbo rock were the rage. I, (along with my sister Laureen and best friend Carol) hosted a luau garage party. We learned organization and teamwork through the planning of the event.

We babysat to earn extra money for refreshments and decorations. Teamwork was essential in Hawaiian leis construction. We gathered around our kitchen table and made flowers from scented Puffs facial tissues. Next, we strung together groups of the tissue flowers with needle and thread. It was time consuming work but well worth our effort.

Party night arrived and we dressed in colorful matching Hawaiian muumuu dresses. Our preparations were as memorable as the actual party. Years later, we were privy to church friend’s Hawaiian wedding adventure in paradise.
