NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE UNBUILT TEMPLE

Haggai 1:6 NIV – 6 You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”

THE LORD’S PRESENCE ENERGIZES THE PRESENT WORK

Haggai 1:12 NIV – 12 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD.

THE LORD’S PRESENCE GUARANTEES FUTURE GLORY

Haggai 2:4 NIV - But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the LORD. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,' declares the LORD, ‘and work. For I am with you,’ declares the LORD Almighty.

Haggai 2:7 NIV – I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, ’ says the LORD Almighty.

POSITIVE EFFECTS OF REBUILT TEMPLE

Haggai 2:23 NIV – 23 “‘On that day, ’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ declares the LORD Almighty.”

WHEN THE PLAIN SENSE OF SCRIPTURE MAKES COMMON SENSE, SEEK NO OTHER SENSE; THEREFORE, TAKE EVERY WORD AT ITS PRIMARY, ORDINARY, USUAL, LITERAL MEANING UNLESS THE FACTS OF THE IMMEDIATE CONTEXT, STUDIED IN THE LIGHT OF RELATED PASSAGES AND AXIOMATIC AND FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS INDICATE CLEARLY OTHERWISE – Golden Rule of Interpretation by DL Cooper

PERICOPE OF TEMPLE PREMISES

Genesis 22:5 NIV – He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you. ”

2 Samuel 24:24 NIV – 24 But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”

2 Chronicles 3:1 NIV – Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David.
