1 Peter devotional #10
“Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.” (1 Peter 1:20-21 KJV).
There are no surprises to God. He planned and implemented every part of Christ’s life on earth. He was foreordained – before creation. God planned our redemption and knew precisely how he would accomplish it. Consider Isaiah 53. The entire chapter is a detailed prophecy of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Verse 10 is a good summary of what God planned. He then instructed Isaiah to write about it 700 years before Christ was born. “Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; He hath put Him to grief.” (God planned Jesus’ suffering.) “When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin.” (God planned for Jesus to pay for all human sin.) “He shall see his seed.” (Jesus would see those brought into his family because of his death.) “He shall prolong his days.” (The Jews and the Roman soldiers thought they were shortening Jesus’ life. Yet, He rose from the dead and lives eternally.) “The pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.” (What Jesus did pleased God and brought glory to His name.) In Hebrews 2:10, he brought “many sons unto glory.”
God manifested Jesus to all humanity in the first century. He lived. He died for our sins. He rose again.
Because He lives, we live. (John 14:19). Our faith and hope is now, and will ever be, in God.
