Going Home

You can’t wait. Excitedly, you share the news; you’re going home.

I was married and left home at the age of 18. Born and raised in Central New York State, moving to Mississippi was a culture shock. I quickly adapted to Southern ways and fell in love with the people. I coped with bouts of homesickness as months and seasons changed. God lifted my spirits with the birth of our first child in Indianola, Mississippi. Soon after, we began planning a trip back to New York with our baby daughter.

I was going home.

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also (John 14:1-3 ESV).”

The home is unimaginable!

“But, as it is written,

‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
    nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him (1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV).”

Jesus didn’t imagine; he knew. He was going home; he was going to the Father.

“You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I (John 14:28 ESV).”
