When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. Luke 4:13 NIV
When was a further opportune time for Satan to tempt Jesus? The lead up to and the eventual crucifixion of the Lord. When Peter rebuked the Lord after He mentioned about going up to Jerusalem to be killed Jesus said to him “Get behind me Satan.” When Jesus was in the garden and praying to the Father that if it was His will that the cup of suffering be removed from Him was another time. And when Jesus was on the cross many jeered at Him saying that if He was the Son of God why did He not come down from the cross. The suffering of our Lord was certainly an event in which Satan tempted our Lord. But Jesus fulfilled His purpose, that which He was sent to do by the Father.
