Children count down the days till Christmas; they wonder if it will ever get here. In contrast, most adults can’t believe how fast time flies from one Christmas to the next. I wish every Christmas season would slow down. It’s my favorite time of year and I always hate it to end.

The Jews had counted down days, years and generations; they looked for the long awaited coming of the Messiah.

“And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 1:16-18 KJV).”

God kept His promise.

“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons (Galatians 4:4-5 KJV).”

We celebrate Jesus’ birth; we wait eagerly for His promised return!

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:8-9 KJV).”
