Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him in?” “No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied. “You mean he has deceived you also?” the Pharisees retorted. “Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law—there is a curse on them.” John 7:45-49 NIV

The temple guards did not bring Jesus in. It was not yet His time. Evidently the temple guards’ hearts were in turmoil as to who this man was that the Jewish leaders wanted arrested. They had not said that they believed in Him, just that no one had ever spoken in the manner that He did. This shows that at least their hearts were more open to hearing what the Lord had to say. The Jewish leaders would have nothing to do with this, scorning the guards and saying that a curse was upon the people, especially those who were listening to the words of Jesus. Little did they realize that the curse was actually upon them.
