Proverbs 27:17 says  Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

If I were to leave you with a thought, it would simply be what about the men? Men's groups are needed.

We're living in an ever changing world of effeminacy and demasculinization of men. There's a war against mankind particularly, the male. Society has become anti male and pro female.

The purpose of this writing is to discuss a critical matter of the church and that's men. If you look at many of the programs in the house of prayer, you'll notice that many are geared towards women's ministry and empowerment. I am not against women's ministry, I just feel that men's groups are not  sufficiently represented within the body of Christ. Keep in mind that I'm not referring to men's prayer or men's day which most men don't attend anyway. I'm alluding to the fact that men don't seem to be a priority in church.

All one has to do, is observe the increasing absenteeism of men along with the increasing growth of women in church.

Men need to be ministered to as well. We have many issues that go unaddressed and unresolved. Because of this, most men choose not to attend church service.

Some of those issues deal with self esteem, unemployment and marital problems etc. Sadly, there is a lack of trust among us. This is because men sometimes gossip about men to other men. A men's group must go beyond a message and a luncheon. It's a good start, but more must be done. Ideas need to be shared along with a plan of action.

Men hurt just like women hurt. We live in a society where you shouldn't talk about it just deal with it. If you talk about it, you're looked upon as weak. As a result, men keep to themselves to the point that it reaches a boiling point. When that happens, we release it negatively. We often take it out on each other. The jails and prisons are filled with hurting men.

So men's groups are needed. Fortunately, there are some churches that do rehabilitation ministry to assist men to become productive in the church and in the world. These ministries do work to prevent recidivism especially among the young males. More of this work is needed.

The church is supposed to be a place of healing not just spiritually but emotionally as well. It's supposed to be a place where the total man can be sharpened.

So Proverbs 27:17 says  Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Obviously, men are responsible for the choices they make whether good or bad. I'm not against personal responsibility either. We've got work to do.

In Galatians chapter 6 verse 2 and in verse 5 as well: we are to bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. We must also bear our own burdens.

Oftentimes when church ends,  contact ends as well until next service. We all have busy lives but it doesn't take much to check in on your brother.
Women tend to fellowship outside of church not just during service. As a result, sisterhood is developed.

No man should feel like he's alone as a believer in Christ. Aloneness can cause the mind to wander and introduce temptation of the flesh. Furthermore, it can lead one to believe he's only a number.

The observant individual will see men coming and going in and out of church. Rarely, will you see clergy embracing brothers and making impactful connections. I'm not saying everyone has to be best friends nor am I attacking clergy.  There are many men of clergy who feel as strong about this as I do. Moreover, not all churches have a lack of support and empowerment groups for men. Some are doing a fine job in this area. I just think it's important to cultivate brotherhood in Christ.

In closing, I feel that every male needs to be a part of a men's group especially if he comes from a broken home. Men who come from broken homes, raised by single women, tend to be more emotional than logical particularly black males. When an emotional male encounters another emotional male, words of hurt sometimes get exchanged and violence is often the end result. This leads one to say, what about the men? Men's groups are needed. God bless.
