“These things He said ( John 11:9, 10) , and after that He said to them, ‘Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him.’ ” John 11:11
Jesus gave time for what He had just said to sink into the disciples’ minds and hearts. They had the Light with them that would enable them to walk in the light and grasp the truths of the light...resurrection found in Christ being one of these truths.
Jesus tells them that Lazarus had fallen “to sleep” and He was going to awaken him. While saying this He was fully aware that Lazarus had died during the time He had delayed His going to him.
The disciples were about to witness, first-hand, the darkness of death being overcome by the light of resurrection life. Tears were about to dissolve into shouts of joy. May we drink from every stream of comfort found in this truth.
