Prophecy
When the sacred garments were made for Aaron and his sons, (Exodus 28) MEMORIAL STONES were engraved with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel and placed on the shoulder pieces of the ephods.
When the Israelites were being prepared to cross over the Jordan and into the promised land, (Deuteronomy 27) they were instructed to place MEMORIAL STONES there, to write on them God’s laws, and to set them up as an altar for fellowship offerings.
Upon crossing the Jordan, (Joshua 4) Joshua gave the Lord’s command for each of twelve men, one from each tribe, to take a stone from where the priests stood in the Jordan and to set them in the place where they would stay that night. These stones would serve as a MEMORIAL for the children of Israel. I want to emphasize here that God held the water separated in the spots where the priests were standing. When they stepped out of the water, it returned to its place. God seems to have this thing with separating the water and setting up stones of remembrance. Verse 24 “He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God.”
Elijah set up an altar with twelve stones, one for each of the tribes of Israel, when fire fell from the Lord and burned up everything on the altar, the soil and water around the altar, and even the stones. (I Kings 18) Elijah then had the prophets of Baal slaughtered. Those twelve stones were not necessarily set up as memorial stones, but I’m pretty sure that the people who witnessed it, the ones who fell prostrate and cried, “The LORD --he is God! The LORD --he is God!” had no trouble remembering it. However, they were stones of remembrance regardless, for they are written of very clearly in the Words of God -- which are OUR MEMORIAL STONES.
Some years ago, in a dream, (That’s what I get for not writing it down that very day. Now I can’t give a specific date.) I was given directions concerning a stone. That dream in its entirety can be found in an article titled ‘A Walk in the Garden.’ That stone, or rather “Rock,” was there for the sake of bearing witness. And I was to pin that Rock to my chest. Today, I am pinning two rocks to my chest. (giving substance to the Words by placing them here... by laying claim to them.) See, the Word bears witness for Itself. As a result, it will bear witness for me.
Today, I am placing two MEMORIAL STONES in my own path -- one Stone of Promise to remember that today is the first day of the rest of my life and I will call it, THE DAY THAT I CROSSED OVER THE JORDAN, and another Stone of Conclusion. (Isaiah 62 and Ecclesiastes 12:9-14 below.) I stand here, after waking this morning in the deep places of God, and I know that I am not able to stand alone, but that it is only by His hand and His mercy that I still stand. He has cut a clear path through the waters and given me direction and hope for what lies beyond the murky waters of the Jordan. Let the stones that I set up here today be a witness. See what great things the Lord will do!
I was wakened this morning by these words: “I’ve placed stones in the deep places for you.” It didn’t take me long to find those stones; the Lord separated the Living Water and laid them very nicely in the open for me. In fact, He uncovered the Conclusion before the Promise. I won’t question the how’s or why’s. No, I believe I will, instead, lay down a couple of Memorial Stones and you, my friends, may call me “Builder.”
STONE OF PROMISE:
Isaiah 62:
1 For Zion's sake I will not keep silent,
for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet,
till her righteousness shines out like the dawn,
her salvation like a blazing torch.
2 The nations will see your righteousness,
and all kings your glory;
you will be called by a new name
that the mouth of the LORD will bestow.
3 You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD's hand,
a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
4 No longer will they call you Deserted,
or name your land Desolate.
But you will be called Hephzibah,
and your land Beulah;
for the LORD will take delight in you,
and your land will be married.
5 As a young man marries a maiden,
so will your sons marry you;
as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride,
so will your God rejoice over you.
6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the LORD ,
give yourselves no rest,
7 and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise of the earth.
8 The LORD has sworn by his right hand
and by his mighty arm:
"Never again will I give your grain
as food for your enemies,
and never again will foreigners drink the new wine
for which you have toiled;
9 but those who harvest it will eat it
and praise the LORD ,
and those who gather the grapes will drink it
in the courts of my sanctuary."
10 Pass through, pass through the gates!
Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway!
Remove the stones.
Raise a banner for the nations.
11 The LORD has made proclamation
to the ends of the earth:
"Say to the Daughter of Zion,
'See, your Savior comes!
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.' "
12 They will be called the Holy People,
the Redeemed of the LORD ;
and you will be called Sought After,
the City No Longer Deserted.
Footnotes:
Hephzibah means my delight is in her.
Beulah means married or Builder.
STONE OF CONCLUSION
Ecclesiastes 12:
9 Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs. 10 The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.
11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails -- given by one Shepherd. 12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.
Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.
13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.
