Much of what we call intimacy in our relationship with God has to do with honesty. We feel the freedom to be honest with God about our thoughts and feelings, knowing that He knows all about them anyway,  so that we have nothing to lose in doing so. Out of that freedom to be honest flows much confession and repentance where it is appropriate and needed. 
  One of the most intimate gestures of all related to this process  is to allow Someone to wipe away our tears or to be allowed wipe away another's tears. One has to be close to another to do that,  both physically and emotionally. God our heavenly Father is that close to us and more. He is as close also, in a different more maternall sense, as a mother is to the infant nursing at her breast.
