When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” John 4:7 NIV

Above and beyond Jesus asking the Samaritan woman for a drink of water, He was asking her if she would have a conversation with Him. He initiated the conversation. We might tend to think that we initiate our conversations with Jesus by coming to Him in prayer. This might be true, but what initiated our cause for us to seek Him in prayer? So, were we the initiators of the conversation with Christ or was He the initiator? Who was the initiator is not truly the important thing here. What is important is that communication occurs between each of us and Christ. It is to our benefit that this occur. Although Christ does not need us to speak with Him, He wishes to have us commune with Him. He wants us to talk with Him, trust Him, obey Him, and recognize Him as our Lord and Savior.
