God's Wrath

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them. John 3:36 NIV

Many have trouble grasping the idea that God can be wrathful. They have the idea of God only as loving. Just because we have trouble grasping certain characteristics as being associated with God, that does not make it so. Is God righteous? Absolutely! How could wrath be righteous? If wrath is associated with evil, can it not be righteous? I believe so. Well, sin is evil in the eye of God. Sin cannot stand in the presence of God as God is righteous. But rather than casting man aside forever since we are born into sin by nature, God gave us His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. One who chooses to remain enslaved to their sin brings God’s wrath upon themselves. God is willing and waiting to forgive but the sinner must acknowledge his need for a Savior and repent. God forces nothing upon us. He offers and we must either accept or reject. Let not God’s wrath remain upon you.
