2020 was a year that cannot be quickly forgotten in modern history, as the hydra-headed COVID-19 roared, scourging almost every country of the world. A terrible pandemic it was!
As the saying, "Naija no dey carry last", it was a period for people to think out of the box, thus innovating ways of survival.
The situation was not different in the fellowship of the brethren and in spreading the gospel. Churches gathered in cells and reverted to online platforms to keep the fire burning.
In fact, as a mission, we traversed three different continents of the world without the need for Visas or stepping into airports. It was one of the busiest years at Potter's House Christian Mission.
Coupled with the fact that an online radio was running, I would edit, at times, to the point that my wife would have to spoon-feed me because I was hungry, but with 'no hands' to eat; deadlines must be met. It was that saturating.
At a particular weekend, I was to attend a three-day intensive multimedia training on video editing, but I missed it because a servant of God needed me to record his radio programme for him.
After we finished six episodes of the programme, he asked if he could learn to record on his own. I burst into hysterical laughter, telling him that he should leave us, as boys, to handle that, or better still, his children should handle it. But he said his children were all in school.
Eventually, I offered to teach him. In a few weeks, he got his own equipment and started to record and edit on his own.
Three years after, we met in a retreat and he narrated what he was able to do with the skills he acquired. He told me how much he would have spent on editing a certain number of episodes.
He also told me of how he armed a particular minister's wife with the skills.
This woman was to use her phone to record a programme meant for the air, but when he heard about it, he explained a better way to do it to the woman. She was, thereafter, invited over and he did the recording for her.
When the finished work was taken to the studio, it was awesome! He then asked her to bring other ministers for training - they were all trained free of charge!
Why have I made a long story out of this? It's just to emphasise the pros of a relationship.
This particular servant of God was so gracious to ask me to offer my skills, and I, in return, wouldn't allow low self-esteem to hinder me from flowing along.
Had Saul, while searching for the lost asses, shut the mouth of the servant with him, he wouldn't have smelt the throne of Israel in his entire life.
You don't know what you're missing when you keep at bay your neighbours or colleagues at work.
What do you even have that you've not been given?
Must your bright mind rot with you in your grave without first impacting others?
Shalom!
