1 Samuel 30:6 KJV
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
The number one thing you must do especially if you're in a position of leadership, is encourage yourself. There are times in our lives where things are not gonna go exactly as we thought and planned. Sometimes we make choices that are not wise and because of those decisions, we experience disappointment.
Even though we're living in times of stress, chaos and turmoil. We have to remain encouraged. Discouragement is a part of life and no one is above it. At some point in your life, you will experience it eventually. It may come through the loss of a job, a loved one or maybe a negative health report. Sooner or later, it's coming.
The thing is that even though discouragement is something that we all have to deal with, it doesn't mean that we have to stay discouraged.
When you're in a position of leadership, such as a Pastor, CEO even a husband or wife, you have to stay encouraged because there are people depending on you to have a positive attitude in the face of adversity.
If you're down in the face of adversity, other people may be down as well. People are looking to you as a leader, desiring to feed off of your energy. If your energy is negative, their energy may be as well.
These last few years have been trying times for people around the world. We've experienced setback and heartache, disappointment and despair. Things are not going back to normal. Things have changed permanently.
I read somewhere that it's not so much what happens in life that counts, it's how you respond to it that matters.
How are you responding to life? Are you responding from a negative frame of reference or positive? Not every day is going to be a time on the mountain. You are going to have some days when you're down in the valley.
I've been down in the valley several times. I wanted to give up on life. But something deep down on the inside of me knew that my valley experience was temporary. Your valley situation is temporary. You faith and trust must be in God.
There are some things in your life that you just cannot fix. No matter how resourceful you may be. No one else can fix them either. Your dependency must be on God. If think you don't need God, Keep on living.
Life has a way of throwing curve balls that you just can't hit. It takes God to step up to the plate and that's a good thing.
So the scriptures says And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
Imagine being in King David's position. Your kingdom just got destroyed and spoiled. Your family and the peoples families were taken captive. Now they want to stone you. How would you respond? What would you do?
Would you be proactive or reactive? Your response makes a difference.
Encourage yourself through prayer and reading God's word. Getting around people who are strong in God is imperative. The company you keep is usually a reflection of the strength you reap. Iron sharpens iron especially in discouraging times. The bible says weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning( Psalms 30:5).
Staying encouraged is important. I say this because discouragement allows negativity to creep in and corrupt your attitude and behavior. You'll find yourself doing and saying things that you ought not.
Again, 1 Samuel 30:6 says: And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
While it is a blessing to be encouraged by others, it is extremely important that you encourage yourself. Life is not always a team effort. Sometimes you have to do life by yourself. It in this times where your self motivation will be tested. God bless.
