Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10 NIV
The blessing here is the same as for the one who is poor in spirit. If one is persecuted for the sake of righteousness, they might be poor in spirit, at least as seen by those of this world. The only poorness that one who is persecuted should feel is the knowledge that one is not good of their own. It is only through the indwelling Holy Spirit that one can have the proper spirit to be of service to God. Know that when you face persecution for seeking righteousness that you are an heir to the kingdom of Heaven.
