God's plan for everyone is perfect peace. God is not interested in the suffering of anyone, let alone seeing anyone languish in poverty. His plan is to see a sane and progressive society governed or controlled by sincere love for one another.

Jeremiah 29:11

"I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

God's instructions or laws were meant to do us only good and not evil. We humans are the major beneficiaries of these good things, not God. When we obey God's commands, we are doing ourselves a favor rather than God. Following God's instructions  will help us get to our promised land on Earth and in heaven.

Exodus 20:23
See, I am sending an angel (instructions or laws) ahead of you to guard you along the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.

Take for example, when God commands us to avoid fornication and adultery. Obeying this is to benefit us humans, not to benefit God. If we do not follow this instruction, we risk contracting sexually transmitted diseases (STD) or Spirit-Transmitted Demons (STD) from our opposite sexual partner. All these can stop us from living a fulfilled life on Earth and could prevent us from dwelling in heaven.

Here is another of the instructions given to us by God: "DO NOT TAKE BRIBE." This was given to us as individuals or as a nation and, when obeyed, would benefit us humans and not God positively.

Exodus 23:8

Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe makes people BLIND to what is right and RUINS the cause of those who are INNOCENT.

What exactly does the term "bribe" or "bribery" mean?
 
Bribery means money or favors given or promised in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust.

Bribery cuts across every aspect of our lives as individuals and as a nation.

Bribery occurrence from an individual's point of view

Bribery could occur in the life of every individual with regards to their family. Consider a situation in which the husband must bribe his way through the wife in order to get the wife to do things that are naturally her responsibility; this is not biblical, and such an act may have a negative impact on the peace that exists between the two couples. When a husband and wife's marriage is tampered with, the innocent (children) suffer.

Bribery occurrence from a nation's point of view


As a nation, we must heed God's command in Exodus 23:8 not to accept bribes, or the consequences will be severe. Using Nigeria as an example, this truth cannot be overstated. The future of the innocent (Nigerians) is really suffering because bribery and corruption have refused to abate.

 Hosea 9:9

They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.


Bribery has had a significant impact on almost every system or section of the country. Until Nigeria starts enforcing laws that discourage bribery and corruption, the innocent (citizens) will continue to suffer. When citizens suffer, the economy and country suffer as well.
