Hebrews 12:
"[6]For the lord disciplines those he loves,
    and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”
[7]As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father?
[8]If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.
[11]No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way." (New Living Translation, NLT).

Chastisement or discipline is a sign of God's love. He does not do this only to exercise His power but to display His love so that He can instill certain training into His own'

Not only this, God's discipline is a mark of His accepting the person as His child. It may not be an easy or a comfortable thing to discipline a stranger's child.
Therefore, if He fails to exercise His authority to discipline you, your name is missing on the list of His children.

One truth is that a loving and true earthly father disciplines his child, should God not do likewise?
When chastisement is carried out, it is not a comfortable thing. It is always painful but profitable on the long run.
The essence of God's chastisement is to form His children into His image and likeness, as it was in the beginning of creation when mankind was in his perfect state.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
