Even though Christmas has passed, some reflection can be done on when and why Jesus, the Savior born in Bethlehem, came to earth. At the time of Jesus's birth the world was living in fear. It was afraid because it was under the control of the iron fist of Rome. An article in a special 2022 edition of Time Magazine entitled, "The Birth of Jesus- Celebrating A Christmas Miracle," states that under Herod there was a "general unrest throughout the Roman Empire and high expectations for a deliverer..." The world at that time was crying out for a savior.
World conditions are the same now as they were then. People are living in fear, unrest, tyranny, and looking for a savior and deliverer. The time is ripe for Jesus to come again.
Jesus came the first time as a baby born in Bethlehem. He came to "seek and to save the lost"(Luke 19:10), those who had lost hope, peace, and eternal life in God's presence. He came to offer "abundant life"(John 10:10), not in wealth and prosperity, but an abundance of joy, peace, hope, and purpose in living. Jesus came to pay the penalty of your sin and mine (Galatians 1:4). "God sent his Son into the world so that we might live through him...and to be the propitiation for our sins"(1 John 4:9-20).
The biblical definition of "propitiation" is "averting the wrath of God as the just judgment of our sin by God's own provision of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross", the same Jesus born in Bethlehem.
There is also contempt for God today, as there was in the time of the Tower of Babel, recorded in Genesis 11:4. Will Alexander, in an article entitled, "The Great Reset, Towers in Babel," states that after the flood of Noah, the tyranny of Noah's great-grandson, Nimrod, used fear of another flood to destroy the world which "resulted in building a tower too high for water, to avoid a climate disaster." Sound familiar? Climate change. Alexander describes the Tower of Babel as a "giant middle finger" pointed at God. All this in defiance of God's promise to never again destroy the world by a flood.
The world is going to be judged, and this time through the seven-year Tribulation Period, which the world is transitioning into at the present time. However, you don't have to live in fear with no hope or purpose, if you put your faith and trust in the Savior from Bethlehem, who is coming again very soon. You do not have to have contempt for God. He loves you with an unconditional love. You can escape the wrath to come. Don't look for a savior in all the wrong places. "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved"(Acts 4:12). There are no other options for salvation. Jesus was and is God in human flesh. Romans 10:9 says,"if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
