THE GIFT NEVER OPENED

I remember growing up and receiving special Christmas cards from my grandparents. The first thing I would do was not read the verse, although the verse was always so fitting for the occasion. I would first shake the card to catch what would fall out. It was always money of course.

Well then, can you imagine getting a gift and never opening that gift? For many of you, that is exactly what has been happening, year after year at Christmas time. And for many of you, such a gift has laid under the Christmas year after year. You seem so surprised. Do not be.

This gift to you is quite simple. It has been God’s gift to you, in giving you His Son, year after year at Christmas.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. “(John 3:16)

The importance of this all-important gift it is simple. Here the emphasis is on the fact that men bring judgment on themselves. The acquitted are those who have believed on Him; the condemned are those who have rejected Him. 

Yes, Christmas is the best time of the year. With the festive décor, music, presents, family, and friends. Nonetheless, please do not shun the real reason for the season, that of the birth of the Christ Child.

“And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"(Luke 2 :10-14)

So, are you ready to open this, the most important gift of your life? I truly trust so.

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13)

Will you simply pray this prayer with me?

"Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen."
