AMERICA'S SUSPECT OF RESPECT

INTRODUCTION

"When I think of the changes that have occurred in the land I love - and the Church I love even more - just in my lifetime, I have to pinch myself to see if it’s a dream gone bad. Sadly, what I see is all too real. I do a double take several times a week-sometimes several times a day - as I witness more and more changes, I never thought I would see." (Dr. David Jeremiah)

However, in today’s America that has all swiftly changed for me. This doom and gloom I can surely live without. No more so-called morning breaking news for me. No more over-shadowing of our great free patriotic Republic of America, the land of the free and home of the brave.

So, you are probably aware of the struggles of our great Republic in today’s progressive world. We are faced with fighting for our Constitutional freedoms against those who would impose a socialistic control over us.

Despite all the expected and unexpected things happening in America today, life is still wonderful. Being now in my eighth decade of life, older than dirt, and twice as gritty, I thought I had seen the best and worst of America until now.

Here. we have a biblically-directed look at what’s happening now in today’s America. Now we can see what’s taken place in America’s current government policies. We are engaged in an unseen war of good versus evil.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.” (Isaiah 5:20-21)

We can call this blog “America's Suspect of  Respect?”

Yes, we believers' enemies are the demonic hosts of Satan, always assembled for mortal combat.” (Dr. Charles Ryrie)

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)

Unless you have been hiding under that proverbial rock, you are probably aware of America’s latest Congressional maneuver; the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act, which is slated to be signed by the current President. 

This act is supposed to codify same-sex marriage and interracial marriage. Is this title misleading? Has America, the land of the free and home of the brave, become suspect of respect?

The Scripture states explicitly that we all are made in the very image and likeness of our Creator, God.

^“Then God said, “Let us make mankind in Our image, in Our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” (Genesis 1:26-27)

The Scripture is very clear as we Christians are to pray for our government leaders.

"Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. (I Peter 2:13-17)

And we have a duty, as men and women, to obey our living Creator’s commands.

“God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” (Genesis 1:22)

Thus, based on the holy Scripture we can see that there is divine judgement being brought against our nation.

”The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness.” (Romans 13:1-7)

Based on this newly enacted Respect for Marriage Act, we can include America’s governmental institutions into this scenario.

“Furthermore, I have seen under the sun that in the place of justice there is wickedness and in the place of righteousness there is wickedness.” (Ecclesiastes (3:16)

However, can divine judgment be reversed?  Yes, it surely may! Let’s all go to work, America! Amen!

 ^"If my people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7:14)

 CONCLUSION

Once, when I became depressed at work, a friend gave me a particularly good suggestion. Pick a month of thirty-one days and read a chapter of the book of Proverbs each day, and keep a journal of my thoughts for future reference. Looking at today’s America’s demographic mindset, maybe I should revive that tried-and-true biblical couch therapy.

So, what is Divine Judgment? Simply look around you, America.  According to Bible history (Amos 3:15) (Colossians 1:28), judgments do not come about as a matter of necessity. Not necessarily solely due to governmental evil. They come because of sin. The sin of a nation's people will invariably draw judgment. (Genesis 12:3) 

America is no exception to this divine rule. America will not escape judgment until it gets rid of sin. So, I ask you again, is America now under divine judgment? Think about any number of intended or even unintended events such as an economy collapse, a weather emergency, chaotic insurrections, division within God’s church, divisions within governments. And mainly, it comes from disobeying the ordinances of God. (Please read the Jeremiah 5) What do you have, eventually? Divine Judgment!

However, the Scripture is perfectly clear. We are to submit to our leaders, for those in authority have been placed there by God.

“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.  For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.  Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” (Romans 13:1-7)

So, will you come pray with me for our country, for our leaders? Amen!

 "Father God, I’m so unsettled within my spirit that my soul trembles within me. I know you are still our all-powerful, all-knowing Redeemer. I know You still place the just and unjust in authority according to Your perfect will. (Daniel 2:21) I know You reward good and punish evil (Genesis 12:3) with respect to Your people Israel. And  I know from personal ongoing experience, that You love and protect Your own. (Galatians 3:26) Thank You for Jesus (John 3:16) and Your Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26) to lead me and guide me into all truth, (John 14:26) in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!"
