God Has Done More Than Enough

If God does not do anything more for me than He already has, He has done more than enough. Beloved, I shall not complain, but I will be grateful for everything. (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). I am home in bed with an awful cold as I write these words. So, my plans for Thanksgiving have changed, and I will spend this glorious holiday alone. Don't worry, because this does not bother me. Neither will it cause me to groan and have a self-pity party because there is too much to be thankful for. Still, I mustered up; the strength to cook a tasty meal, including my sweet potato pie.

In this season when families are still struggling, I count myself blessed despite these challenging times. In the building where I live, the mayor usually delivers turkeys. This year they could only bring ten. Every year I give mine to someone who needs this. So, passing up being chosen for one was an honor to me. Besides, I don't eat turkey. Some tenant association members felt that if he couldn't send at least sixty, not to send none. But I say ten is better than none. At least ten residents will not have to buy a turkey. 

It reminded me of the time I spent three years without any income. I lost my job when the Head of Human Resources abused her power. Though I looked diligently for employment, I received rejection after rejection. Despite this challenging time, God made a way out of no way. Then it happened, I was offered a job as a Crossing Guard. The training and the test were on the same day. I passed with a 94%, and I gladly accepted the position. One lady complained because the job was only three hours a day. My reply was where I had zero income, I now had a means of financial support. With God, nothing shall be impossible. (Luke 1:37).

Sometimes you need to look at the situation from a different perspective. The Bible reminds us it is good in those awful circumstances, and God works out everything for our greater good. (Romans 8:28). So, no matter how bad it gets, I won't stop until I find that good thing when everything looks impossible. Beloved, this holiday season, find a reason to give God thanks. It doesn't have to be some grand event. Still, no matter how insignificant you think it is, we can say, Thank You, Jesus. Never forget; to the homeless, a cardboard box is their home. A meal for many will come from the garbage disposal. So, thank Him for a bed to sleep in and shelter from the cold. 

No matter how terrible it is, you, too, can say thank You, Lord, for all You have done. I don't know your situation, but I acknowledge; God has done more than enough for us. Every day He blesses us with His mercy and grace and never gives us what we deserve. Even with all the good we do, it does not warrant access to his unmerited favor. As you gather with family and friends, ask yourselves, do any of us deserve the grace of God? Have a Blessed and Glorious Thanksgiving.
