The Word was from the very start,
For the very Creator was He.
He was of God the very heart,
He was the all that God could be.
When God began he was there,
And through Him all was made.
There was nothing made anywhere
Without the power he displayed.
He was the very source of life
That gave light to all mankind.
Yet those who live in hateful strife
Will remain forever blind.
His light shines in the darkest place,
And his light will not go out.
Some evil forces try this light to erase,
But they just don' have the clout.
From God a great man was sent
And John was this man's name.
He came with a very clear intent
To this light of God proclaim.
He had a lofty goal to achieve
As a witness to this great light.
His goal was that all might believe
And be rescued from sins dark night.
He was not the light himself,
But only a witness to the light.
He was soon put on the shelf,
But he helped men see God's light.
He pointed to that true light
That gives light to one and all.
He was coming to this world of night,
To light a pathway up from the fall.
He was already living in the world;
The very world he himself had made,
But he was not recognized by this world,
And so no honor to the light was paid.
He came to that which was his own,
But he was not by them received.
But when his light was fully shown
Many did receive and believe.
To those who did believe in his name
He gave a very special right,
ever again would they be the same,
They'd ever be children of God's delight.
They would not be natural born
By human choice or husband's will,
But they would be spirit born
By God's free choice and will.
God's Son chose to come in human flesh
And dwell on earth like one of us.
With the glory of God our minds were refreshed,
For we seen God's glory in the Lord Jesus
He was the one and only Son,
Who from the Father came,
Full of grace like no other one,
And truth, none other can be the same.
Concerning him John testified,
As with his voice cried out,
This is the one to be magnified,
He is what life is about.
He is one who though he came behind me,
He is still way out ahead;
In this world of time he cannot confined be,
For he was in eternity bred.
Out of his fullness we have all received grace
In place of grace already given.
For Moses established the law in its place,
But grace and truth came with Jesus from heaven.
o one has ever seen God,
But the one and only Son.
Who is himself actually God,
And he and the Father are one.
Jesus was never just on his own,
For the Father was always near.
Jesus made the Father known,
By him we see the Father clear.
Jewish leaders asked John to speak,
And tell just who he was.
He said he had no big secret to leak;
Becoming the Messiah was not his cause.
Are you Elijah then, they asked;
He answered "I am not."
They kept inquiring with motive masked,
Assuming he had some kind of plot.
Finally they asked him straight out,
“Tell us just who you are.
Lets stop beating this bush about.
Get to the point, stop straying afar.”
In the words of Isaiah the prophet John said,
"I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness,
For there is a way in which we need to be led,
"Make straight the way of the Lord," I must stress.
The Pharisees continued to inquire,
By what authority do you baptize?
How dare you to such heights aspire,
When no prophet you are in our eyes?
“I baptize with water,” John replied,
“but among you stands one you do not know.
I am not worthy to have his sandals untied,
But after me he will his presence show.
On the other side of Jordan
In Bethany this took place,
For this is where this John man
Baptized and showed his face.
The very next day when John saw Jesus
Awesome words from his mouth were hurled.
“Behold the Lamb of God who clearly sees us,
And yet comes to take away the sin of the world!”
“This is the one I have been talking about,
He is the one to surpass me.
I cannot help in his presence to shout,
This is the one who is ever before me.”
“Before this I did not know him,
For he has been concealed,
I came baptizing to cleanse from sin,
That he might to Israel be revealed.”
John said, "I saw the Spirit come down,
And like a dove he came upon this man.
I heard no thunder, there was not a sound;
But this sign said more clearly than any sign can
This is the man I was told to look for.
He with the Holy Spirit will baptize.
God is entering history as never before,
And he is God's Chosen One before our eyes.”
The very next day Jesus passed by
As two of John's disciples looked on.
One saw Jesus and let out a cry,
"Look, the Lamb of God, God's Son!"
The two disciples followed Jesus,
And Jesus asked, "What do you want?"
They said, "Teacher will you please us.
Let us to your resting place jaunt.”
“Come,” he replied, “and you will see where I stay."
So they went with Jesus and stayed the whole day.
There is not a word revealed of what he did say,
But it was about four o'clock before they went away.
Andrew, Simon Peter's brother was one of the two,
And he found Peter as soon as he could,
For he wanted Peter to know this man too,
He did the right thing just as he should.
He wanted his brother to know what he had found,
That Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ, the Promised One.
When he brought him to Jesus, surprise did abound,
For Jesus treated Peter like a longlost son.
Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John,
But now a new name I am giving to you.
You will be called Cephas from now on.
Jesus thought he was a solid rock and would ever be true.
The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee,
And he decided he would take someone along.
Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”
He was a good choice who would never go wrong.
Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the same town.
He flew to find Nathanael to let him know,
What in Jesus of Nazareth they had now found,
That he was God's highest come to earth below.
"You have to be kidding," said Nathaniel in doubt.
He could not believe what was being said.
"From Nazareth nothing good ever comes out,"
And these negative thoughts ran through his head.
Philip did not argue, but said, "Come and see,"
When Jesus saw him, he knew right away
The kind of man Nathanael would be.
And he surprised him with what he had to say.
“Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
Nathanael was shocked and asked, “How do you know me?”
Jesus said, "I saw you under the fig tree where you had a seat,
And I could see you before Philip called you to come and see."
Nathanael then these awesome words did declare,
“Rabbi, you are the Son of God; and of Israel you are the king."
Jesus said, "You believe now and this truth you do sware,
But in the future you will see even a greater thing.
Jesus added, "Very truly I tell you, heaven opened you will see,
With the angels of God ascending and descending;
They will be doing so on no one but only me,
For I am the Son of Man, now and for all time unending.
