Discerning When Darkness Appears as Light

Luke 11:35. "Take heed, therefore, that the light in you is not darkness". 

I would like to draw your attention to something significant here. Jesus Christ says that darkness sometimes appears as light. Sometimes angels of darkness are facade as angels of light.

Truth be told, the devil has some level of power and wisdom. It would be unwise for us to think the devil is powerless and foolish. The Scriptures testify to him as the one who has the power of death and is full of deception.

The story of Job, as given in the scriptures, describes the possibility of what the devil can do if God permits him. It also tells us that no man is a match for the devil without God's protection. God had to warn Satan not to touch Job's life, though Job was referred to as a righteous man by God. Do you know what that means? A man's righteousness cannot protect him outside the sovereignty of God.

Satan can mimic God's power and wisdom. The magicians in Egypt replicated some of the miracles God did through Moses. But one thing he cannot reproduce is the nature of God. And this is the canon for judging any show of power and wisdom. Any display of power and wisdom that lacks the nature of God is devilish. The manifestation of God's power and wisdom is accompanied by God's nature. 

Jesus said, by their fruit, you shall know them. You cannot know them by their power and wisdom. Judging by that alone will be unfruitful. The only way you can discern if power or wisdom is of God is that its manifestation showcases the nature or life of God.

The manifestation of God's light is accompanied by love, joy, peace, self-control, gentleness, meekness, and the like. If you do not find these fruits in any display of power and wisdom, it is darkness facading as light.
