Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:14 (NASB)
The auction house art appraiser at the charity event looked up to see a young woman approach with a small bronze figure of a woman in flowing garments.
“I got this at a garage sale,” she said and mentioned the sculptor’s name then added, “I’m afraid I don’t know much about him.” However, the appraiser knew the name and then told the owner about him and also the object. Then he had more information, “We don’t see too many pieces from this man but this one is particularly fine. In fact we had one of his works and it wasn’t as fine as yours. That one sold for $20,000 but I think this one is worth about $100,000.”
The owner’s mouth dropped open as she pointed to it with a trembling finger. “I had no idea!” She stammered. “We use it as a doorstop!"
It isn’t often that something ordinary turns out to be priceless, but to God that’s exactly how he regards us. After all, we probably tend to think of ourselves as being average, or at least ordinary. Certainly not anything special – or even priceless. However, to God it’s far different.
For if you think of yourself as ordinary he sees you as precious, special and valuable – as someone who’s part of his family because you’ve believed in his Son. And because of that relationship he has designed a special plan for you along with the provision and guidance to enable you to carry it out.
The whole process is called grace - and that in itself is priceless.
