Measuring Your Hearing

Spiritual growth is an essential aspect of Christian maturity.  This maturity comes as a result of opening the flood gates to our mind and heart to the Truth of God’s Word.  It is through our eyes and ears that the building blocks of our faith are established.  The more attention we give to the Truth, the greater degree of spiritual growth.  If we limit our intake of God’s Word we will experience limited effectiveness in the Kingdom of God. 

In secular education, there are those who simply want to get by with the least amount of scholastic effort and, as a result, their grade illustrates that intent.  There are also students that look at primary education as a stepping stone to institutes of higher learning.  The potential to fulfill one’s dreams and goals rests in the willingness of the individual to pursue those objectives.

The Bible teaches that those who pursue spiritual growth will be awarded for their effort.  The more one seeks the Truth, the more one will receive the revealed Word.  In other words, the potential for spiritual growth is contingent on the effort made to receive the Word.  The more one digests the Truth, the more Truth will be given.  Whenever we think we have arrived at a “satisfaction” level, we face the danger of losing what we had once acquired. 

The doorway to a lukewarm experience is achieved by failing to pursue a life of spiritual growth.  When we do not add to our repertoire of spiritual knowledge, we lose our desire to seek “new heights” and, as a result, complacency ensues.  Jesus pointed out that the more we desire to hear the Word, the more Word will be given. (Mark 4:24, 25)  Hearing is giving audience and attention to the Word.  The more we hear, the more we will receive.  The Holy Spirit will reveal as much as we are willing to accept.

I guess it comes down to the effort, or lack of effort, we display in hearing the Word.  If Believers would “measure” as much time and interest in Biblical truths as they do in hearing the Media, we would see the Kingdom of God in full display. 

If Believers do not tune their ears to hearing the Truth, they will continue to hear the negatives of life.  Failing to expand their Biblical knowledge will erode even the Truth they had heard over the years.  Scripture is to be measured without restraint.  As the Word is supplemented with faith, our actions will evidence our spiritual growth.

We have a choice in life.  Either we pursue an unlimited desire for God’s Word or we limit our desire to receive all that God has for us.  Do we want maturity or immaturity?  Do we desire participation or spectator status in our Christian life?
