There exists a wide diverse set of perceptions and miss-perceptions into what being a Christian means. I think the primary cause for this reality is that a relationship with Christ Jesus is extremely personal and unique from individual to individual. It is difficult if not near impossible to isolate a state of being and say “That is what a Christian is”. I will not attempt to do this. What I will do is try to explain what it means to me and how making the choice to follow Christ has affected my life.

Before I start into this examination I want to spend just a few moments to clarify some core and fundamental aspects of the Christian faith. I want to do this so that anyone reading the subsequent passages will know the foundation that I have based my faith. I am going to keep this as simple and dispassionate as I can so as to promote clarity.

I believe that there is one God. That God created all existence and that God retains absolute dominion over all that has been created. I believe that God is infinite, omnipresent and omnipotent. I believe that God has a plan for all things and a purpose for all things.

I believe that Man was created by God as uniquely suited to perform works for God and to be in close fellowship with God. I believe that Man was created in the image of God with specific gifts beyond any other creature in creation. I believe that God passed dominion of the Earth to Man for a purpose.

I believe that the fellowship relationship of Man to God was severed when Man choose to listen to and follow the advice of the enemy of God, Satan. This act of disobedience passed control and dominion of the Earth to Satan. I believe the cost of this was the introduction of sin and death into the world and that this cost remains in affect today.

I believe that God knowing that Man was unable to fully pay the debt for this sin, and unwilling to change the law by which debt is repaid, provided a way for Man to be forgiven and restored to fellowship with God. I believe that the vessel for this is in the form of Jesus of Nazareth. I believe that Jesus was born as both Man and God and lived a perfect and blameless life. I believe that Jesus gave his life as the atonement for sin and was resurrected alive three days after his death. I believe that Jesus remains the only pathway by which Man can restore his fellowship with God and avoid permanent death.

I believe that this world and all that is in it remains a temporary existence. That Man is here to work for Gods glory and to learn a lifestyle of love, mercy and peace that will be used in a life beyond this one. I believe that the Biblical scriptures are the inspired words of God and that they are the perfect resource for Man to learn how to live with each other and to live in fellowship with God.

I believe that I matter to God. I believe that God is not indifferent to my existence and that God loves me and desires to be with me. I believe we are all created by God, formed uniquely suited for specific tasks. I believe a life spent in the pursuit and fulfillment of those tasks is a life well spent. I believe our uniqueness is used by the enemy of God to promote division. I believe the Christian Life is the opposition to division and is to be both example and incentive for all Man to restore their fellowship with God.
