Secured Contract?

One of the major mistakes that so many Christians make is the assumption that once they have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord they will have achieved eternal security and a place in Heaven.    They believe that it takes no more action on their part to experience eternal life.  To back up their Biblical immaturity, they proceed to pick and choose Scriptures that solidify their understanding.   When they happen by “chance” to read a section of the Bible that does not support their belief, they simply ignore or misinterpret its intent.   Many of our personal beliefs are based on what we have been taught through tutors.  In other words, people become indoctrinated by what their church or denomination believes.  This “adoptive theology” has limited people to hearing instead of reading the Word themselves.  We need Pastors/Teachers to present the Word, but never as a substitute for personal study.

Eternal Security or “Once saved always saved,” has been a debatable subject for generations.  Both sides present emotional cases.  Why do Christians even bring up the subject?  Could it be because of their own uncertainty?  To quote Scripture and to actually believe it is two different things.  Why would one think there is or isn’t an escape clause to their salvation experience?  I have never questioned my eternal security because I know whom I believe, and nothing will ever separate me from that belief.  But I also realize that God will not force me to accept His secured offer.

The Scriptures make it clear that after accepting God’s Grace through Jesus Christ, I have a responsibility to grow in my faith.  If I choose not to grow spiritually, I shorten the distance between my enemy, which is Satan, and myself.   In Hebrews, it is made abundantly clear that there is a door that leads to voiding one’s Eternal Life Contract.  Paul states in no uncertain words that if one chooses to go through the door of rejection, he will vacate his policy. (I believe Paul wrote Hebrews.)  As one reads Hebrews 6:4-8, one sees the argument of self will clearly presented.  Many Christians have been lulled into a false sense of security.  One is not saved by works, but by Faith.  Faith is a spiritual exercise that leads to spiritual growth.  Spiritual growth leads to spiritual maturity.  Spiritual maturity leads to the assurance that God is able to abundantly secure the Believer's relationship with Him and nothing will separate that person from Him.  I believe there is an escape clause, but who with the mind of Christ would ever want to even entertain the thoughts of rejecting his Savior and Lord?  Paul said to his readers that he was persuaded that they would not want to pursue “Apostasy.” (Hebrews 6:9)

I believe in Eternal Security.  I believe in God’s Grace through Jesus Christ.  I believe I am saved and nothing will separate me from Him.  I also believe it is my responsibility to grow in the Faith and become more like Jesus every day.  I believe I am sealed with the Holy Spirit.  I believe my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.  I believe I have a place in Heaven waiting for my arrival.  I cannot imagine questioning my eternal security. 

Choosing the salvation road is more than just believing; it is traveling the road of obedience.  It is realizing that it is no longer about you, but Christ living within you.  Once the Christian understands the finished work of Jesus, he will never wonder about eternal security.
