Words have the capacity to identify where one stands emotionally and spiritually.  It is an audio display of the internal workings of an individual.  Careless words reveal an unorganized status of one’s true mental and spiritual state.  Nowhere is the importance of words more evident than in the lives of Christians.  Words that are based on a Biblical foundation will display where their relationship lies, either with Jesus or with the world.  Words will also locate the Believer’s degree of Scriptural understanding.

The sport of fishing is an adventure of exciting anticipation.  The beginning success of that endeavor starts with determining where to fish and what bait to use.  Some fishermen enjoy the smaller types of fish and pick the shallower parts of the lake/ocean to wet their lines, while others head to the deeper waters for the bigger fish.  

Some Believers stay in the shallow parts of the Bible and never venture out into the depth of the Word.  In the book of Hebrews, the author lists six basic beliefs.  These are essential steps in the Christian's quest for the Kingdom of God. (Hebrews 6:1, 2)  Many are content to catch the basics, while others are in search of the “progressive truth” that is deep within God’s Word.  Deep Word fishing will hook the “meat” and bring spiritual fulfillment to their lives.

The Christian’s words will show what type of fishermen they are.  Take the phrases that so many use in church services or Bible studies: “Lord, be with us in the service; be with us as we travel; be with those who need a touch,” etc.  The question must be asked of the petitioner, where did Jesus go that we had to ask Him to rejoin us?  Jesus said that He was always with us. (Matthew 28:20)  Words that accentuate the negative, e.g. fear, worry, anxiety, and doubt, have kept Christians in the basics, while believers that have ventured into the depth of the Word exhume the positives of life.  The success of Deep Word fishing depends on the type of bait that is used.  When we fish with Faith, our “stringer” will be full of fulfilled Truths.  The more we faithfully submerge our Faith in the Word, the greater the potential for spiritual growth. 

Psalmist David wrote, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalms 19:14)  When Believers launch out into the Word and discover its power, their confession will pave the way for Biblical application.  The author of Hebrews challenged the readers to go beyond the “shore-line” of the foundational principles and launch out to the depth of the Word and pursue perfection (completeness.)  (Hebrews 6:1)
